Talking things local (Saturday 07/10/06)

First raya song played on the radio during sahur this morning. First raya song heard for the first time (or so) in 5 years. And I dropped a tear or two for nothing but when it was aired. Luckily I was alone this morning or husband would probably think I am some kind of a freak, in tears for some somber-sounded festive song!

During sahur this morning I managed to ‘finish up’ the mee soto I bought from the nearby Bazaar Ramadhan quite quickly. No, not because it was tasty, but because it was too salty. I kept pouring boiled water to the gravy, and then, sort of 'spoilt' it unintentionally. Still edible though so I ate it up, and threw the rest away once I think I had enough to survive for the rest of the day. That was how I finished up the mee soto. Ramadhan after all couldn’t train this young Singaporean to be a good person, eh (in this context, not to waste her food). Well food-wise, I guess I’m better off trained in Hobart where no one around me would leave a single dot on his or her dish after each meal. Yes, they lick their plates!

Anyhow come to think of the terribly prepared mee soto, I thought dad was perhaps right. These people selling food at the bazaar aren’t professional (cooks) after all. They cook and sell food only for such occasion. So perhaps it’s a reason why the food was not that great. But then again we never know. The cook could have forgotten to taste his/her cooking or refuse to do so because he/she is fasting. Well, whatever it is I can’t be stuffed to think about the salty mee soto or the cook. I have eaten the food and started fasting anyways. So will now wait patiently for husband to return home.
