It was a cold night (1°C outside home) and the kotatsu made sleeping so comfortable that it overcame the guilt in me (for not doing my assignment) subsequently putting me back to sleep each time I wake up. Yeah, simply too comfortable that I didn’t seem to care much even though I was subconsciously aware that my laptop continued working and its battery left charging throughout the night, my living room was the brightest in the neighborhood with its main light turned on, and the heater underneath the kotatsu continued burning energy to keep me warm…
So the entire night, I was just being selfish…being unsustainable, shame on me as a Sustainable Cities student, wasting Tassie’s energy supposedly to support my night studying activities when all I did was shut my eyes, and my mind, pretending these things didn’t happen.
Anyhow, the following morning, I woke up to a cool, fresh morning, roughly 3 hours before my Political Ideologies tutorial class. Yep, Political Ideologies…I’ve got one assignment to complete before that class. It is a 700-word tutorial paper that should be submitted no longer than 2 weeks after presenting in class. Today is exactly 2 weeks after I presented on Fascism, but I have yet to complete the tut paper and because I didn’t want the lecturer to come asking me for it, so I decided not to come to class!! So at about 7++ am I sent Phil (Philip McCann), my good friend-cum-classmate for 2 years a text message to his mobile:
“Hi Phil, I’m not going to class – haven’t completed my tut paper actually and didn’t want him come asking me about it. If Baogang gives out exam question paper, can you please get one for me, please? Thanks. Good luck on your presentation!”
After that, I felt like sitting out on the verandah, drinking hot coffee all by myself, and simply letting time pass by the morning undisturbed by the usual uni schedule. But that didn’t happen…instead I woke up to Sunrise, one of Australia’s morning show, then headed for the kitchen and started making pancakes and coffee. And at about 10:25 am I received a message on my mobile from Woollan asking me to coffee with him…
