Are New Year's resolutions necessary?

Twelve days into 2008 and I haven't made any New Year’s resolutions yet! It seems like I just can’t be stuffed to make one now. I don't know, maybe it is because I hardly hold myself to resolutions, so I am thinking why make any, right? But at times, I thought I really should have some or make at least one for the year because resolutions after all do help keep me focused.

Speaking of New Year’s resolutions however set me wondering about the real necessity of making/having one. For years I haven’t had any (New Year's resolutions) to keep up, but I ‘survived’ the times. So my question is, are New Year’s resolutions really necessary?

Like many other people in the world, I used to make New Year’s resolutions too. I made New Year’s resolutions primarily because it was the end of the year. Other than that, it just made sense to look forward to a brand new year with new goals to achieve. But for the most part though, I made resolutions because it was (and still is) just ‘the thing’ that people do at the time of the year.

But overtime, my resolutions became like an anthology too many! I kept making new resolutions at the start of each year but not only did I not hold myself to them, my New Year’s resolutions also appeared the same for me year after year. Worse, I never really look back on any one of them shortly after I declared them my official solutions for the next twelve months.

So I am now thinking I probably shouldn't make anymore New Year’s resolutions. And perhaps I should just wipe the practice out of my life. After all New Year's resolutions just don't seem 'that' necessary to me any longer.

But a fortnight ago I was only contemplating on having one. You know, like many other people in this globe, I just routinely pondered back to the past. And like every other time a brand New Year arrives, I would think about changes that I want to make to myself and then try to resolve to follow through on those changes.

So I was thinking if I were to have one this year (although I know it is a bit too late to be called New Year’s), it would have to be none other than about writing ‘better’ stuff on blog. I know blogs are just full of shit and nothing intellectual really. Still I'd like to think it’d be good for me to write something more credible than what I have written to this point.

But those are just thoughts. As I say, I can't be stuffed to make any (New Year's resolutions). And I think I can still survive without one, so why bother make any New Year's resolutions, right?

So now, back to the question: are New Year's resolutions really necessary? I still don't know actually. But I'd like to think it isn't truly. In my opinion, it is good to have them but it isn't bad not having any either. Then again 'New Year' and 'resolutions' seem somewhat coexistent. They are separable in many ways but it seems like only in the calendar of my mind they are not.

I don't bother since I don't think I can keep to them. The only one I think I can keep to is ...I promise to enjoy more good food with exciting flavours this year.

Haha! I'm sure you'll have no problem keeping yourself to the promise, considering your love for good food. So, what other exciting flavours are you looking forward to this year?

Yes indeed! Haven't put too much thought into it but I'll definately post it when I do. Maybe curry/beef/squid ice-cream?
