Below is an amalgamation of a previous post and a new one, featuring a few pictures of my major food-treats here in Singapore for the month. Nothing special really as the other months were pretty much the same for me - I eat out REALLY often and am given shouts from the same two men (dad and Kenji) every now and then. But I guess with December being the last month of the year and the unusual occurrences of infrequent occasions like family dinner to celebrate the return of Nunun and brekky with Auntie Mimi in Singapore, I guess they make this month look less ordinary to me...
So anyway, I better let you know that some things in this post have been changed. The earlier post, which was 'December treat (part 1)' have now got more things added to it. So in this post, there are more pictures and stuff included, such as the ones below if you were to scroll your page down now. Plus, I've got a photo of brekky at Bedok replaced (if you care to know), and a photo at D&D and its descriptions removed (also if you care to know). So that's it from me in 'December treat'. Hope you all have fun reading this post. Have a happy new year to all, and God bless!
In chronological order but from the end of post:
29th December - Dinner with the Yatim family at Straits Kitchen, Hyatt. Food was good. But ambiance was bad. And service was odd. That's all I can say about my first experience dining there.
23rd December - Probably the first wedding invite ever that was so close to home (only 5 mins walk)!! You know how the Malays love to extend their wedding invitation to just about anybody including some very distant relatives and sometimes even friends of friends they never know but just heard about? Well, here's an example of it. I don't know the bride or the groom, or even their parents. But I was invited through mum who passed me an invitation card. Mum told me that the bride's mum is mum's cousin's daughter. So the bride is actually mum's cousin's daughter's daughter. Really distant relationship, isn't it? But whatever it is, I still attended the wedding and found it quite cool.
19th December - Dinner with IKOMA mates. For the first time ever dinner with IKOMA mates was non-Japanese! So record was broken. Dinner this time was Indonesian at Pagi Sore (literally meaning 'morning afternoon' in Indonesian). That night we had a range of popular Indonesian dishes, which we combined some 'common' dish together with our individual plate of white rice - do you get what I'm trying to say here??... Dinner that night was alright, but the company was excellent! Our dinner stretched till about midnight as we moved to Lau Pa Sat for teh tarik after the meal.
14th December - Coffee things at Haagen Dazs in Centrepoint. The iced coffee (left) was disappointing but the other one with ice-cream on it (can't remember name) was not too bad I thought.
14th December - Indonesian cuisine for lunch. I had Ikan Lele bakar (grilled catfish - see pic) at Ayam Bakar Ojolali, Lucky Plaza. Lunch was awesome!
11th December - Dinner with some of mum's siblings and their family at Al-Azhar Restaurant. That night I got to choose the dishes for everyone. So I got us all a range of food, most of which were healthier than what my dad would normally go for - sorry, dad. Anyway that night I enjoyed myself a lot. Thanks to dad who paid for everything and everyone - I had a great time!
8th December - Breakfast at Bedok. Kenji and I (not in pic) joined mum, dad, Murni, grandma and Auntie Mimi for breakfast at Bedok that morning. We all had Malay kuih and some Chinese cuisine from Chinese Grandma's stall for breakfast. Brekky that day was excellent as always. But unfortunately, that morning was also the last time I guess I would be dining there cuz Chinese Grandma is closing her shop by the end of 2007. So, I was quite sad. And I'm sure I'll miss all the good food and great fun I have always had visiting Chinese Grandma, Uncle Said and Auntie Jun at the stall. Sob, sob. That morning too was to a large extent a December treat for me. And I'm sure it was for the others too.
7th December - a huge serving of satay and its condiments at the Dinner and Dance. This is the table's first meal (out of 8 courses) for the night. Although satay can be rather odd as a starter to an 8-course dinner to me, yet I find it quite enjoyable and appetizing. Dinner on the whole was good, and the event in all was awesome!
4th December - Mar reacting to the text message I think sent by her husband... Hung out with Mar at Arab St that day - had lots of fun lunching at Orchard, after which we moved to Bugis where I accompanied her to meet 'her' tailor at Arab St. Our meetup didn't just end there though. In fact, we even continued hanging out at Bugis where we ended up buying the same exact abaya at Golden Landmark Shopping Centre before walking around Bugis Junction and chatting over teh tarik, jemput-jemput bom and popiah basah at Kampong Glam Cafe. We seemed so free then! And yeah, I just can't wait for another time like this! Anyhow to Mar: sorry I didn't ask you for permission to put your picture here. But just in case you're not happy with it, do let me know, yeah?
