A Visit To The Dentist

I just came back from the dental clinic. I was supposed to have my wisdom tooth extracted today because I requested for it after not being able to endure pain. But after turning nauseous from the 1st jab (I turn nauseous after any jabs be it flu vaccine or blood taken for tests which I did before), I stopped Dr. Norreha, the dentist, from any further procedures.

While resting to feel better, Dr. Norreha explained on my tooth situation and the whole extraction part. But I grew weak once again after listening to her especially on the part where she mentioned she will have to cut open my gum in order to extract the wisdom tooth and that it would be traumatizing for a first timer like me.

We did 2 X-rays today. Both X-rays took longer time than the one we did about a fortnight ago. This time, I just felt like vomiting once the film was placed deep down my mouth to X-ray the roots of the wisdom tooth. But I believe it was all just 'psychological' since I could do it well 2 weeks ago. From the X-ray we found out that the roots of my wisdom tooth were curved and therefore the surgery despite minor, will not be as simple as extracting a tooth with straight roots.

So I left the dental clinic with a letter, an appointment at the Alexandra Hospital and some medications to go along with, which altogether costed me about S$30. Dr. Norreha has referred me to a friend dentist whom she thinks will help me better as her friend is a dental specialist and is able to provide me G.A. (general anaesthesia) as I go through the surgery.

Now that I am back, I am thinking I could have extracted my wisdom tooth today if not for the information I was getting that started to freak me out. Ignorance is bliss after all. The only things good that I remember about today is that I surprised Dr. Norreha with my teeth for none of them had fillings on and I never had any experiences of tooth extraction by a dentist!

Right now though I am starting to reject the idea of G.A. I think G.A. may give me side effects that may be bad for my long-term health. I don't know...

Amazing that you don't have any fillings in your teeth! Not many people can say that.

Don't worry about the GA. I had GA 6 or 7 years ago and extracted 4 of my wisdom teeth at one go. It went well, although some people felt nauseous when they woke up, I was fine when I woke up.

I took the painkillers as directed and felt no pain at all. In fact I was eating sushi the next day.

Drink papaya juice after the operation, it helps with the healing.

Fillings - perhaps the only achievement I have in life! Sadly, it is temporary and doesn't come with certificate :)

Thanks for sharing your experience with me. I got really worried over having to do GA yesterday and so was a bit worked up and desperate to ask around to hear from those who have gone through it. It certainly feels better now and I am so comforted to hear from your side.

The sushi bit sounds really cute! Ahh, you!

The papaya juice is a great advice! Will prepare some for the aftermath of the surgery! Thank you. Thank you so much.

You just need someone to take you home after the op since you might feel a bit weak.

There is a big difference between extracting your wisdom tooth via local or GA. The people who use the local methods actually experience more pain.

I know I had a big headache when I had to extract 4 of my teeth (2 on different days) when I had to wear braces. The GA was like a walk in the park.

No worries. Take care.

Thank you so much for telling me more about teeth extraction and anaesthesia. GA, a walk in the park, sounds great to me. I hope mine will turn out as good as yours. Yet, I'm still a bit worried: one side of my wisdom tooth may cause temporary to permanent numbness in the lower lip, tongue and chin if the nerve is bruised. So, I'm praying hard to God to keep me safe and healthy :) Thanks to you once again for the information.
