Some Things Japanese

Only recently I get to watch Letters From Iwo Jima.

I missed it when it was shown in cinemas in Singapore. Well, actually I had no intentions of watching the movie ever. And I didn't care much about it either though I heard it was good.

But just the other day Kenji and I came across Letters From Iwo Jima though in a VCD format whilst browsing through some vcds/dvds at Laser Flair.

VCD, for those who have no idea what it is, is video compact disc (CD) that contains video and audio - moving pictures and sound. Unlike DVD, it is capable of holding up to only about 74 minutes of full-motion video with quality stereo sound. So 'my' Letters From Iwo Jima, being 140 minutes, had to be in 2 parts.

It costed us only about S$15 though (as compared to that of in DVD format which should cost probably a lot more but how much more I'm not too sure actually). At such price, Kenji and I wouldn't hesitate to get one for sure.

By now, I've seen Letters From Iwo Jima about five times already. I really like it, I think. The picture was excellent, the storyline was great, the actors acted well...it was all just so inspiring to go see Iwo Jima in my next trip to Japan, whenever that may be (though I think I know people in general do not have access to the island)!

So it seems like Letters From Iwo Jima will be my 2nd favourite for any Japan-based/related films/movies/animations. My current top favourite is still Grave of The Fireflies (Hotaru no Haka), also another world war story.

Speaking of Japan-related movies however, I thought I should add this in my blog: a Japanese commedy video from You Tube entitled Darth Vader VS. Japanese Police (below).

Asyraf made me watch it and I thought it was rather funny. You might want to see it, too. It's a bit typical of Japan's sick jokes or "baka" behaviour of some of Japan's average guys. Anyhow, have fun watching!

I always enjoyed watching the Japanese shows for an hour or so every day, although I was so linguistically limited.

Some of game shows were so absurd, hahaha, I couldn't believe it. Definitely some quirky sense of humor.

Yeah, I agree with you no less. And most of the time indeed, I find them weird!

I, on the other hand, LOVE Seven Samurai! Although it's a tad too long! :)

Seven Samurai? By Akira Kurosawa? Is it the one divided into a couple of 'episodes' or something like that? If it is then I've seen it. Yeah, very long but classic!

Thank you for visiting this blog!
